Art Therapy – Art Education. Fusions and Differences or Questions About the Identity of Disciplines
Abstract
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of this article is to analyse the interrelationship between art therapy and art education in Poland.
THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The main question is: what are the relationships between two processes based on art and serving non-artistic purposes?
THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The initial starting point is a characteristic of the development of art therapy as expressed in its definition. The following sections address the differences and similarities and the mutual changes that the disciplines may experience.
RESEARCH RESULTS: An analysis of the assumptions of the disciplines shows that they are different due to their goals, working methods and place of implementation, but that their interpenetration can change the quality of therapeutic activities and relationships in the school.
CONCLUSIONS, RECOMMENDATIONS AND APPLICABLE IMPACT OF THE RESEARCH: Defining their semantic fields and practices is necessary to shape the identity of both disciplines.
