Samotność sumienia
Abstract
Przeżywanie tak rozumianego sumienia z jednej strony powoduje poczucie samotności istnienia, z drugiej zaś daje moc suwerenności osobie ludzkiej, suwerenności względnej, gdyż poddanej wartościom i prawom obiektywnym.
Conscience is understood here as an inherent characteristic of a human being, expressed in the power to run one’s own life personally, independently and freely, on the basis of finding and judging the reality from the aspect of moral values. Recognition and action do not refer to the external world only, but also to the subjective, internal world. Owing to the possibility to create internal distance form oneself and reflection, an individual may form judgement as to the structure of the order and hierarchy of values created by themselves and correct it. They may also change the size of the force of action. Men can simply shape their conscience, and thus shape themselves. The acts of running one’s life and action are always personal. No one can do it for someone else. No matter if we accept values, or reject them; if we decide to take action, or to abandon it, it is always our decision only. Even if we decide to abandon our sovereignty, we do it ourselves and personally, which does not absolve us from responsibility for the effects of such action. Obviously, there are situations when conscience is disturbed, and responsibility reduced: certain diseases, terror etc. Experiencing conscience understood in this way on one hand leads to the sense of the loneliness of existence, on the other hand it provides a human being with the power of sovereignty, relative sovereignty, since it is subject to the objective values and laws.
