The Relationship Between Entitlement Attitudes and Flexibility in Coping With Stress Among Young Ukrainian Women Living in Poland
Abstract
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: Contemporary society is characterized by dynamic population movements, with young adults, in particular, making decisions to migrate and live in other countries. In the context of this global trend, the focus of this study was on young Ukrainian women who decided to settle in Poland. The aim of the research project was to understand the relationships between their entitlement attitudes and flexibility in coping with stress.
THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: What is the relationship between entitlement attitudes and flexibility in coping with stress among young Ukrainian women? The main variables were measured using M. Żemojtel-Piotrowska’s Entitlement Questionnaire and M. Basińska’s Coping Flexibility Questionnaire.
THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The study begins with the concepts of entitlement and coping flexibility, proposing that entitlement attitudes could influence adaptability to stress, followed by analyses about relationships between those variables. The findings were then linked to the broader context of migration and adaptation among young Ukrainian women in Poland.
RESEARCH RESULTS: The analysis confirmed the connection between the active dimension of entitlement and flexibility in coping with stress. Higher level of flexibility correlates with entitlement attitudes in the active dimension and also increase in active entitlement correlates with the repertoire of strategies employed by individuals and the variability of their application. Additionally, greater reflectiveness is associated with increased passive, retaliatory entitlement attitudes.
CONCLUSIONS, RECOMMENDATIONS, AND APPLICABLE VALUE OF RESEARCH: The research findings deepen the understanding of the relationship between entitlement attitudes and flexibility in coping with stress, supporting the design of integration and psychological programs, the individualization of educational approaches, and the encouragement of an active attitude among migrant students.
