Two Nameless Ones in Conversation. The Proces of Growing up in the Light of Janusz Domagalik’s Radio Play “Going to Yourself”
Abstract
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: To indicate and demonstrate that important psychological, pedagogical and aesthetic issues can be successfully combined and presented in the form of a radio play, which is illustrated and highlighted by Janusz Domagalik’s piece, Going to Yourself.
THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The research problem covers two fundamental questions: how does a dialogical discourse reflect complex moral, educational and psychological issues through the signs of radio art and what is the significance of the form of verbal interaction in this process? Among the methods used, the most important are media content analysis, analysis of the literature on the subject and content selection.
THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: Going to Yourself is a form of reflection on man and his choices. Domagalik, through the two-dimensionality of the plans and the phonic structure of the radio play, extracts two stories: the Boy and the Man.
RESEARCH RESULTS: Domagalik’s text is an example of working through the difficult situation of a young person (Boy), and in a broader context – it becomes a sign of the changes taking place in Polish creativity (literary and radio) for the young and about the young. Translating a literary text into the signs of radio art makes one aware of not only the aesthetic, but also the explanatory value and capacity of the text of culture.
CONCLUSIONS, RECOMMENDATIONS, AND APPLICABLE VALUE OF RESEARCH: The radio play Going to Yourself is an illustration of the transformative power of art and an example of communicating and negotiating meanings in the capacious form of dialogue. Such a format may lead to the expansion and re-evaluation of the role of both literature and radio art. The text can also be read and used as a proposal for presenting, discussing and solving the problems of a young person during adolescence.
