Courage and Shame as Categories Revitalizing Moral Authority?
Abstract
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The scientific objective of the article is to present the values of courage and shame. I consider courage and a sense of shame as categories necessary in the process of revitalizing moral authority in social life.
THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The research problem is to present the role of the values of courage and shame that revitalize the impact of moral authority in the era of crisis of moral values. The method of critical analysis of the literature on the subject was used in the philosophical and historical plane in relation to the concept of moral authority.
THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The text presents definitions of the concepts used, theoretical foundations and a historical outline, as well as an analysis of the influence of the categories discussed on the formation of the concept of moral authority and its role in social relations.
RESEARCH RESULTS: The analysis of the concept of authority in the context of the possibility of its renewal and revitalization in social relations indicates that courage understood as a motivating virtue, as courage in starting what is good, encourages activity in action and eliminates the acceptance of evil in social life. In this way, it releases a sense of security of the subject and a specific state of harmony between being an authority and the principles proclaimed by him.
CONCLUSIONS, RECOMMENDATIONS AND APPLICABLE VALUE OF RESEARCH: Philosophical analysis and axiological reflection indicate difficulties in perceiving the role of authority, because the condition of the globalized and multicultural world generates the occurrence of conflicts in the perception and acceptance of moral values. This state causes the devaluation of authorities and thus generates great difficulties in the need to refer to moral authority.
