The Concept of „Comprehensive Catholic Upbringing” as Presented in the Vilnius Journal “Ku Szczytom”
Abstract
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of this article is to present the concept of education promoted in the Vilnius-based journal Ku Szczytom.
THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The main research problem addressed in this text is the search for an answer to the question of what concept of education was presented in the journal Ku Szczytom. To this end, the program and structure of the journal, its academic profile, as well as its authors and collaborators were identified. The article employs the method of historical-pedagogical analysis of texts published in the journal.
THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The article begins with introductory remarks concerning the journal in question. It then presents its authors and collaborators, followed by a discussion of the educational ideas proposed by them, which together formed the project of “integral education.” In the conclusion, the value of the pedagogical ideas advanced by the contributors to Ku Szczytom is highlighted, and the essence of the concept of “integral education” is summarized.
RESEARCH RESULTS: The considerations presented indicate that the educational postulates and recommendations formulated by the authors suggest that the concept of integral education must be based on an understanding of the child, and that its foundation should be religious education along with an appreciation of the role of the Church and other institutions and organizations cooperating with it.
CONCLUSIONS, RECOMMENDATIONS, AND APPLICABLE VALUE OF RESEARCH: The conclusions drawn from the analysis of the articles show that the postulates concerning the concept of integral education presented by the authors have a timeless character. The educational principles and recommendations related to religious, moral, and social education that form this project possess practical value for parents, teachers, and educators alike.
