Call for Papers: HW Vol 24, No 71 (2025): "The Theory and Practice of Art Therapy"
The fluid nature of postmodern reality brings about constant and accelerating changes, leading to instability across various aspects of life: personal, relational, professional, cultural, economic, and geopolitical. Individuals are continually compelled to deconstruct and reconstruct their identities in response to a social mirror reflecting ever-shifting expectations. This dynamic generates numerous stressors and factors that can relativize or even erode fundamental values, thereby deteriorating the quality of life. Both internal and interpersonal dimensions start to lose a central sense of self. The search for identity is inherently dichotomous, as it involves both creativity and destruction, which opens up many possibilities for multimodal interactions. By engaging with art and experiencing and expressing emotions, individuals can discover new motivational paths that support further personal growth.
The editors of the thematic issue of Horizons of Education on the Theory and Practice of Art Therapy invite exploration into how art therapy functions in both scientific discourse and practical applications within today’s socio-cultural reality. We propose the following areas for scholarly discussion: the fundamentals of art therapy and its Polish references; progressive theories in global art therapy as a subject of pedagogical discourse in Poland; theoretical approaches and trends in art therapy; the spiritual dimension of art therapy; art and science as sources of knowledge about reality and humanity; combining arts versus separatist tendencies in art therapy disciplines and future trends; art therapy as an academic discipline; research methodologies in art therapy; similarities and differences between art therapy and art education; art therapy and the concept of education through art; the role of art therapy in social rehabilitation and revalidation; art therapy and preventive measures; methodology and evaluation of art therapy practices; and the use of digital tools in art therapy.
