Abstract
Abstract: The article discusses issues connected with current multiculturalism. The paper is divided into several, general sections including discussion about the presence of multiculturalism in a modern world. The terms of multiculturalism and interculturalism are explained. Also, focusing on problems, occuring due to misunderstanding or different understanding of concept, with defying these phenomen. Considerations are based on attempt to answer questions that are usually asked by intercultural education: ?Who are we?? , ?How we live together?? , ?how we cooperate together?? Further parts of article contain definition of basic terms and determination of their ranges. Highlighting the relation between multiculturalism and identity while taking into consideration different perceptions of muliticultural and intercultural education. Including experiences from other countries in multicultural area. Thus, while introducing this issues various sources of multicultularism are presented. FromCanada,United States andAustralia to European experiences. Remembering about directions and trends of multiculturalism occuring inEurope as well as to paying attention to a contemporary problem, that one can see different response to otherness. Including current phenomenon like development of of separatist movements, politicization of cultural identity or increasing social, cultural and political role of all minorities. Finally, reference was made to occurrence of national and ethnic minorities inPoland and to local experiences fromLubuszLand.
