Towards Partnership – Preschool and School Cooperation with Parents on the Example of Poland and Lithuania
Abstract
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: Presenting the characteristics of cooperation with parents in pre-school and early primary education in Poland and Lithuania and highlighting the shift away from viewing parents as auxiliary participants; emphasizing their developmental potential, grounded in the concepts of partnership and accompaniment, as a basis for building a cooperationoriented organizational culture.
THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The research question concerns the specifics of teacher–parent cooperation in preschool and early childhood education in Poland and Lithuania. It involves an analysis of the legal framework and literature on the subject, as well as a review and interpretation of selected research findings from both countries, which are then summarized and critically examined in the context of organizational culture.
THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: Educational partnership and developmental accompaniment were presented as a relationship model with parents amid increasingly complex educational challenges. The analysis is set in an international context, drawing on PISA (2022) results that highlight the role of parental collaboration in student achievement and wellbeing. The legal basis for cooperation with parents and selected research on this issue in both countries were also discussed.
RESEARCH RESULTS: Discrepancies between the legal foundation of partnership and practice were shown, as well as examples of partnership worth disseminating.
CONCLUSIONS, RECOMMENDATIONS, AND APPLICABLE VALUE OF RESEARCH: Given the growing complexity of educational challenges, deeper reflection on factors shaping parent–school cooperation is essential. Partnershipbased collaboration builds shared responsibility for educational quality and lasting cultural change. Strengthening this partnership in multiple ways and prioritizing relationships with parents from the start of schooling fosters their longterm engagement.
